Sirefef is a multi family malware threat. This means it has many different parts and strains that do many different things.
What most of these family strains do are
- Downloading and executing of arbitrary files
- Contacting remote hosts
- Disabling of security features
The most common known strains are
- Trojan:Win32/Sirefef
- Trojan:Win32/Sirefef.AN
- Trojan:Win64/Sirefef.AG
- Trojan:Win64/Sirefef.AC
- Trojan:Win32/Sirefef.AL
- Trojan:Win32/Sirefef.AQ
There are many others and different anti-virus clients call the strains by different names.
How to Remove the Sirefef Virus?
We need to take a multi prone approach in order to fully remove this virus. We will be using a few anti-virus clients to scan for this threat and fully remove it. You may need to boot into safe mode with networking in order to run the scanners. Learn how to boot into safe mode here

Step 1. Download Microsoft Safety Scanner here. Install this free program and run a full scan. In many cases it will pickup the sirefef traces but not always.
Step 2. We need to run a full scan on your computer using a program that is known to pickup ALL the Sirefef traces as well as any other threats this client may of downloaded or installed onto your computer. For this job we are going to use SpyHunter. Download Here.

However if it finds threats you would have to manually remove the threats found or purchase the antivirus client in order for it to remove it for you. If the SpyHunter scan comes up clean you are good to go and Microsoft Safety Scanner found and removed all the traces already.
