FBI Online Agent Virus

What is FBI Online Agent Virus?

The “FBI Online Agent” is a fake message meant to trick people into thinking they have been targeted by the FBI. This is the same threat as FBI Money Pak. Same scam just a different name. All messages and warnings given off from this client are bogus. This scam is attempting to scare users into pays a FALSE fine.

How Did I get infected with FBI Online Agent Virus?

There are several ways to get infected with a virus like this. Often times a user it tricked into installing the virus thinking it is a video update or software update. Users can become auto infected by such threats just from visiting a hacked or malicious website. This is why it’s so important to have a good antivirus client on the front end to block such attacks and to ensure you are using the latest operating system patches and browser patches.

Most decent antivirus client are able to block this virus threat from installing.

What is FBI Online Agent Virus Doing to My Computer Right Now?

This virus threat is not stealing personal information. It may however snap a picture using your webcam if you have one installed. This is a major creep factor from this virus threat. For the most part it will just hold your computer for ransom and not allow you to do much till you get it removed or pay the false fine. The warning messages about you doing something wrong are all bogus and should not be taken seriously.

Some of the warning messages you may see are:

FBI Online Agent has blocked your computer for security reason
The work of your computer has been suspended on the grounds of unauthorized cyber activity.
Described below are possible violates, you have made:
Article 274 – Copyright
A fine or imprisonment for the term of up to 4 years. (The use or sharing of copyrighted files – movies, software)
Article 183 – Pornography
A fine or imprisonment for the term of up to 2 years. (The use or distribution of pornographic files).
Article 184 – Pornography involving children (under 18 years)

Again, the virus makers are trying to scare you into paying a false fine so they state things like “GOING TO JAIL” to scare the user. None of this is true.

FBI Online Agent Virus Manual Removal Procedures

Manual removal is possible. What you need to focus on is stopping one executable file from running. After that you are almost home free.

The file we need to stop is “RANDOM-Name.exe” The file name changes on most computers. See the below for location of this file and tips on locating it.

File Locations

Take note that the below file locations contain hidden files and folders. For instance the AppData folder is a hidden folder. In order to view these folders you will need to show hidden files and folders. Learn how to at http://www.removevirus.org/show-hidden-files-and-folders

Windows Vista/7:

In one of the folder paths below you should find the file

  • C:\Users\USER NAME\AppData\Local
  • C:\Users\USER NAME\AppData\

Here are several ways to stop this threat

A. Browse to the file location shown above under File Locations and re-name the file first and then restart your computer. To help you find the file you can sort the files by date. This will narrow down the possible file names. From there you should be able to pick out a weirdly named file that makes no sense at all. You can not delete a file while it is in use so you will need to re-name the file and then re-boot your computer.

B.  Boot into Safe Mode and delete the file. Again look at the file path below. You can also boot into “safe mode with networking” and download Spyware Doctor with Antivirus. You will be able to install it and run the virus scan. Learn how to boot into safe mode here

C: Log-into another users account and see if you can delete the file. Again use the File Locations below to locate the file

E:  Start the Task Manager the very second you login and terminate the process that way. Then locate and delete the file

F: Use the command line to kill the task and then delete the file using the File Locations below. This is a little more advanced but we have a guide on this on http://www.removevirus.org/kill-running-process-using-command-line

Once you have deleted the above executable, FBI Online Agent Virus will no longer be running. At this time you need to run a full virus scan. RUN THE  SCAN!. We recommend wither SpyHunter. You need to ensure no other viruses are on your computer.  So many people skip this very simple step.  Take an extra few minutes and ensure you have all the viruses removed.

If you can’t seem to delete this virus you can hire a professional to help. We recommend www.pcninja.com
