Your Computer Appears To Be Infected

If you are seeing a Google warning that states:

"Your computer appears to be infected"

"We belive that your Computer is Infected with malicious software"

You are not alone in this. What has happened is your computer was infected with a virus that changed your internet settings.  Your DNS to be more exact.  In a nut shell the FBI stepped in and has been re-routing your traffic for you so you could get onto the internet.  come July 9th 2012, they will stop doing this. A simple guide with more exact details can be found on http://www.dcwg.org/.

How to Fix the "Your Computer Appears To Be Infected" Issue

Good news out of all this is it's a simple fix that does not take long to do. For instance the TDSS tool is a great free tool to use to restore your DNS settings.  I have used it dozens of times already on test computers and it works well to remove this threat. Download the free tool at http://support.kaspersky.com/faq/?qid=208283363

Of course my favorite antivirus client has the solution as well.  Spyware Doctor with Antivirus has the TDSS tool needed to clean out this as well.

If you don't want to fix this issue yourself and want a computer repair pro to remove the threat you can use www.pcninja.com . They can remote into your computer and remove this threat.  Of course you would have to do it prior to the cut of date of July 9th as you would not be able to use the internet after this date.  If waited too long you can always download the tdss tool onto a thumb drive or removable media and then run it on the infected computer.

Another tool out there that can resolve this issue is Combofix.exe.  This program should be used more as a last resort as it can cause issues.  Be sure to backup your data first to be on the safe side.
