What is Security Scanner?
Security Scanner is one of the nastier malware clients to hit the market as of late. This is a clone of Security Shield, Security Shield 2011, Security Tool, System Tool and a few others. If the past variants are any indication that means this virus threat will be around for a long while and will most likely infect millions of computers over the next year or so. It's a bad one.
How Did I Get infected with Security Scanner?
In most cases people get infected with Security Scanner from a drive by download or from installing the virus thinking it was something else like a software update. I tested Spyware Doctor with Antivirus against this client and it blocked the install of it and also detects the virus. Not surprised as it is the antivirus client we have been recommending for years.
What is Security Scanner Doing to My Computer Right Now?
The good news out of this is this virus threat does not seem to do any harm to files on the computer at this time. Of course these threats change over time and it always could. Not likely but it's been known to happen. From our testing of this client your internet will most likely be blocked and you will have to remove the proxy settings of your browser to get back online again.
You social profiles and banking info all seem to be perfectly safe. This client is simply trying to make you purchase the software and making no effort to steal credit card information or any of those other things.

Step 1. Locate a randomly named file on your computer. Easier then it sounds. The file will be named absolute gibberish and make not sense. Something like 43dger53.exe or fgjkdfj45l2.exe. It will be hog wash.
Here is the directories we know of were this threat will most likely be. Pick your OS and follow the path.

How to Find the File
A. Browse to the location above and sort all the files by date. There should only be 1 or two files with the date of your infection. From there re-name the file by right clicking on it and selecting re-name. You can NOT delete a file while it is in use. After you re-name it then re-boot your computer and it should be back to normal. No find that virus file you re-named and delete it. Then run a full virus scan using Spyware Doctor with Antivirus to ensure you are not infected with anything else.
B. The second you log into your computer hold down ctrl+shift+esc. This will bring up the Task Manager. It may not work for some people but others it will. No go to the processes tab and sort ny file name. Now go through the list and try to find an oddly named file. There may be a few but you are looking for the one that is really out of place. Once you find it you can right click on the file and select open folder location. Then terminate the running process. If you found the correct one then the fake Security Scanner virus should no longer be running. Now you can just delete the file.
C. Log into another users account that has admin access. Normally this account is not affected by the virus. You should be able to browse to one of the above paths shown and then sort by file names and pick the virus threat and hit the delete button.

SDA will find the virus threat and tell you the files name and location. From there you can manually delete the virus. IS it the free version of Avira, If so then no issues. However I recommend you only keep one main antivirus client on. Disable the other and only use it for secondary scans.
