AV Secure 2012 Manual Removal Procedures

We need to first kill off the main .exe file that is causing AV Secure 2012 to run.

  • AV Secure 2012.exe ( It will not be called this. This is an example) You are basically looking for a file that is shown in the path laid out below. If you boot into safe mode you should be able to just delete this file. It will be a random file like 4536f942.exe. The file name will make no logical sense.

Know File Path Locations

XP

  • C:\Documents and Settings\[Username]\Application Data\

    C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR USER NAME\ApplicationData\Local\Temp\

Vista / Windows 7: One of the below

  • c:\users\[username]\AppData\local\
  • C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME\AppData\Local\Temp\
  • C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\

To Stop this process you can

A. Browse to each of the file location above and locate the .exe file. you may need to show hidden files and folders. Once you are in the folder you can sort the files by date. You may need to change the view in order to have this option. Sorting files by date will eliminate all but a small handful of files. From there it should be rather easy to determine which file is the virus. You can now right click on the file and re-name it. After that you will have to re-boot your computer. You can not delete a file while it is in use. After you re-boot the virus threat should not be loading.

B.  Boot into Safe Mode and delete the file as shown above.

C:  Use the Task Manager  to find the location of the file and re-name it then delete after re-boot. Most people will have this disabled and not working. However some users can use it the very second you log into the operating system. You have about 4 seconds to locate the file before the Task Manager will close.

D:  Log-into another users account and see if you can delete the file. If no other admin account exists you may be able to create one and log in that way. HINT: You can also download and install Spyware Doctor with Antivirus from another account and run the full virus scan to help you locate the virus threat.

E:  Start the Task Manager the very second you login and terminate the process that way.

F: If you boot into safe mode with networking you should be able to install an antivirus client and run a full virus scan to locate the location of the virus. Spyware Doctor with Antivirus will be able to find this virus threat in the free trial. However it does not remove threats unless you were to purchase the software. With that being said you can still use it to help locate the virus location as the scan results do show the location of the virus threat.

The next step in AV Secure 2012 removal is to delete the following file. You NEED to re-boot your computer first if you re-named the file as you can not remove a file that is running. The above kind of already covered this.

If you are unable to find the Executable you need to delete then you should boot into safe mode with Networking and install the Spyware Doctor with Antivirus Client and run a full scan.

Conclusion

This virus threat is not as bad as many out there. The hardest thing is finding the executable you need to delete. Once that is down it get's very simple to clean up the threat. In almost all cases of infection with malware the end user was not using a good anti-virus client. I love free clients as much as the next person but most do not have the latest virus defenitions and many don't evne provide up front protection to block the virus from installing. Having a paid client goes a long ways in protecting your computer so you never get infected again.
