Remove Cloud AV 2012

What is Cloud AV 2012?

Cloud AV 2012 is the latest malware release from the makers of AV Protection 2011 and Open Cloud Antivirus. Malware act's like a real piece of software. However it is a scam. What this program will do is show false warnings and scan results to scare the end user. The warning messages are all made up. This program is the virus.

Like many other malware products this program will block most other executables from being run and it will re-direct your web browser to other malicious sites. This can make it very hard for end users to run a virus scan or install a antivirus client. Best thing to do in these situations is to boot into safemode with networking. If you do not know how we have a guide on this under the How To Section on top.

Once they run the update they just downloaded they become infected. This is not always the case. You can get infected from drive by downloads that force the program onto the computer. In almost every malware infection case the end result was the person was not using an active antivirus program that provides real up front protection. Free anti-virus clients are free for a reason. They are not as good as a paid antivirus client. In today's world you need to be better protected.

What is Cloud AV 2012 Doing to My Computer Right Now?

It's not stealing your personal information. In our test run of this malware client we found that it does not allow remote entry into a computer nor does it attempt to steal your passwords or banking information. However you may also be infected with another virus that is attempting to steal personal information. The only way to know for sure is to run a full anti-virus scan. We recommend Spyware Doctor with Antivirus because it has a very high detection rate and will let you know if you are infected with any other viruses.

Cloud AV 2012 Manual Removal Procedures

The first step you must take in order to remove Cloud AV 2012 is to stop the following process.

  • Cloud AV 2012.exe ( You file trace will be different. It's a random file name like 45546467k54.exe that will be on your computer) See below for tips on finding this file.

Know File Path Locations

XP

  • C:\Documents and Settings\[Username]\Application Data\

    C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR USER NAME\ApplicationData\Local\Temp\

Vista / Windows 7: One of the below

  • c:\users\[username]\AppData\local\
  • C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME\AppData\Local\Temp\
  • C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\

To Stop this process you can

A. re-name the Cloud AV 2012 virus. Once you manage to re-name the main executable you can re-boot your computer as normal and when your computer boots back up the virus will not be running. From there you can just delete the file. To find out the virus name you can browse to one of the above file paths and look at the file names. You are looking for a .exe file that just not make any sense. Something like 234532453.exe or f345n3j34.exe. Best thing to do to narrow down your search is to sort all the files by date. You should only have maybe 2-5 files that fall within the date range of your infection. This helps to eliminate almost all files but a few. Once located, right click on the file and select re-name. Rename the file to anything you want. Then re-boot your computer as we talked about earlier.

B.  Boot into Safe Mode and delete the file as shown above. To learn how to boot into safe mode see the How To Guides section on top. In safe mode the virus should not be running. Because it is not running you should be able to just delete it.

C:  Use the Task Manager  to find the location of the file and re-name it then delete after re-boot. Most people will have this disabled and not working. However some users can use it the very second you log into the operating system. You have about 4 seconds to locate the file before the Task Manager will close. ctrl+shift+esc will bring up the task manager.

D:  Log-into another users account and see if you can delete the file. Great option if you have another user account on the computer that has admin rights. You could technically create a new account from the infected account and then log into that one to delete the file.

E:  Start the Task Manager the very second you login and terminate the process that way.

The next step in Cloud AV 2012 removal is to delete the following file. You NEED to re-boot your computer first if you re-named the file as you can not remove a file that is running. The above kind of already covered this.

If you are unable to find the Executable you need to delete then you should boot into safe mode with Networking and install the Spyware Doctor with Antivirus Client and run a full scan.

Conclusion

This malware threat is not all that bad compared to many others I have seen over the last several years. It's not doing any file damage to your computer. It is a frustrating virus, don't get me wrong. The main part is to locate the single main executable for this program and delete it. Once you are able to do that you are in the clear and mostly done.

The best defense is a good offence. Take precautions and purchase a good antivirus client like Spyware Doctor with Antivirus. Free clients just don't hack it in today's virus world.
