Win7 AV Virus Removal Guide

Description: Win7 AV is a rogue security application which attempts to trick users into paying for a license to the software. This rogue application gets downloaded by Trojans which enter the computer thanks to malicious websites from which they get downloaded. Once installed, Win7 AV disables the Windows Firewall and security updates. Then it proceeds to perform endless security scans on the system, reporting false results which state that the computer is heavily infected with malicious software. Fake security warning pop-ups are also generated from the Windows taskbar. The aim of all this activity is to try and get the user to pay for the license to the ‘full’ version of Win7 AV by claiming that the currently installed ‘trial’ version is incapable of removing the detected ‘threats’. However, this is a fake software program, so it has no ability to clean the viruses which do not exist anyway.

Win7 AV Manual Removal Procedures

The first step you need to take in order to remove Win7 AV is to stop the following processes:

  • Win7Browser.exe
  • Win7 AV.exe

If you find this threat too hard to remove yourself and need an expert we recommend www.pcninja.com . They charge far less than others and are great at what they do.

Delete Win7 AV Files

The next step in the process of Win7 AV removal is the deletion of the following files and folders:

  • Win7Browser.exe
  • Win7 AV.exe
  • VmDetectLibrary.dll
  • svhostqt.dll
  • svhostesl.dll
  • sbhostcl.dll

Now the fake security client should no longer be running and you should be able to open up programs again. We recommend running a full security scan using Spyware Doctor with Antivirus if you have not done so yet to ensure you have no other viruses.

Win7 AV Registry Removal Procedures

The deletion of files and folders alone is not sufficient to completely remove Win7 AV. In order to ensure complete Win7 AV removal, you should remove or modify the following keys and settings from the Windows Registry as well. Anything with a 1 at the end should be changed to 0:

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\StartMenuInternet\IEXPLORE.EXE\shell\open\command "(Default)" = "%UserProfile%\Local Settings\Application Data\av.exe" /START "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe"
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Security Center "AntiVirusOverride" = "1"
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Security Center "FirewallOverride" = "1"

Once all these steps have been done, you can rest assured that you have completed Win7 AV removal. However, on top of the normal procedures mentioned above, a complete system scan using genuine antivirus software such as Spyware Doctor with Antivirus will prove to be an efficient extra security measure.
