Trojan.Twebot is a Trojan that is associated with the popular social status website, Twitter. This dangerous Trojan could enter your computer in the form of a fake Twitter widget or could get downloaded from malicious websites. Once it is installed, Trojan.Twebot proceeds to open a security backdoor to the infected system, which is then exploited by the malware developer. Trojan.Twebot may also act as adware, downloading unwanted advertisements and displaying them incessantly. It will also redirect the user’s browser to websites which it wants to advertise.
The backdoor access provided by Trojan.Twebot may be used by the malware developer to steal bank account information, as well as other important private information such as contact details. Trojan.Twebot will visit a specific Twitter URL and gain instructions on how to proceed based on the tweets on that specific Twitter account. This allows the malware developer to control the functions of the Trojan through the Twitter account.
Please note that it is best recommended close your web browser before attempting to remove this Trojan due to the fact that the malicious software has live components interacting with browser functionality, making it impossible to remove unless its execution is first brought to a halt.
