Users have been experiencing an error which does not allow them to access security websites of any sort from their web browser. Whenever they attempt to access the websites belonging to such anti-malware applications as PCtools, MalwareBytes, Norton Antivirus, Avast! Antivirus etc they are given a fake error and their browsers refuse to access those websites, irrespective of which web browser is being used on the system.
This is due to a rootkit or virus that is present on the system. Here are some quick things to try to resolve this issue
- Often times users will find that their Windows Hosts file has been highjacked and is blocking these sites. Just use our free Tool in the side bar of this site. It's called Re-set Hosts. This tool was developed by Microsoft for reasons like this.
- Re-set Internet Explorer or use a different browser to download the security software you want. We also include a free tool in our side bar for this.
- If the above does not work then try a thrid party download like Spybot Search and Destroy software or download a security client form Downloads.com or Cnet.com
- Check to make sure your lan settings are not using a Proxy. Open Internet Explorer > Tools > Internet Options > Connections > LAN Settings button. Then uncheck the proxy box if it's checked.
